With the program available here, you can share a directory of your computer on the web. Thus, no account to create on a web site like flickr or picasaweb, no questions, no quota, no forbidden file types, no upload each time you have news photos, MP3s or videos. Indeed, you are sharing a folder of your own computer, and your friends and family see it by just using their plain old web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, ...). Yes, it is as simple as that.

Such a simple method:
  • unzip this Exposer Share directory, for instance on your desktop
  • place your photos and MP3 files in the directory named expose
  • double-click exposer.exe , and an icon appears on the lower-right corner of your screen, to control Exposer

    Yes, but the screen can be switched off

    Q : How to test if it works ?
    You must see the icon on the lower-right corner of your screen. If you click it, the word 'run' has to be ticked. Then click Test my connection

    Yes, because Exposer uses an automatic redirection, comparable to a dynDNS, to avoid the need for any configuration

    Q : Will I need to perform a complex manipulation, for example a "redirection of port" ?
    No, except if you are connected to the internet through a router that you bought before 2002, whith no UPNP compatibility.

    Yes, for that you have to place your MP3 in the expose diretory

    Q : Can I share a directory of my office computer ?
    It is unlikely the case, as most companies filter the web trafic. Exposer is designed for home use. But you will be able to access home files (photos and music) from you work.

    Simply copy the files in the expose directory.

    Q : Can I classify my files by theme or year ?
    Yes, just create sub-directories in the expose directory

    Q : Can I have a personalized welcome page ?
    Yes, for that purpose you just have to place a file named index.html in the expose directory. Edit that file with any word processor, like Word or Open Office, and save it in 'filtered web page' format. If you do not create such a file, the list of your shared file will be displayed instead.

    Yes.

    Q : Can my visitors access my whole computer ?
    No, only the expose directory.

    Q : How do I retrict the access ?
    For that, you will have to define a password and comunicate it to your friends. To define that password, click the icon on the lower-right corner of your screen, then 'settings'. Choose a user name (for example 'family'), then a password (for example 'sesam'). Please don't forget to tell your friends afterwards, by clicking the icon, then "how do I tell my friends"

    Q : Can my visitors corrupt or delete my files ?
    No. They have a read-only access.
